A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places.
~ Isabelle Eberhardt
After 25 years of hair raising adventures in Africa, Sandy is now found manning the helm of marketing, media and new product development for Uncharted.  Staring down a lion or fighting bush fires pales in comparison to her current responsibilities!

Born in South Africa and raised in Rhodesia during the war, she spent most of her childhood in the family digs in Salisbury, where her Mother tended the unruly brood and her father fought in a war. She grew up exploring the dewy Nyanga Mountains, trout fishing and hiding out in magical mountain cabins.  She spent lazy days on Lake Kariba dodging crocs and hippos and collecting dung beetles.  Countless holidays were spent at Victoria Falls as “terrs” (terrorists) pelted the surrounding landscapes with rockets and mortars, and yes, this all seemed perfectly normal to her.  Her first Safaris were spent driving in convoys flanked by armored tanks. Her Dad would yell “duck” and they would hide down in the car behind a re-enforced metal passenger doors as bursts of gunfire peppered their little motorcade.  Considering her childhood, is it any wonder she chose the Safari world as her life!

After time in England and Europe finishing her education, she set off to Kenya with her husband on their honeymoon. Kenya was at once intoxicating and complicated and it was here that her youthful explorations gave way to a more intimate awareness of Africa and of the rural African people, the compelling reasons to preserve wildlife and how inextricably linked these two were.  These early years in Kenya laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to empowering African people through committed conservation-based tourism and in turn, preserving the continent's last remaining wilderness areas and wildlife.

Her home is now nestled in the hills that form the southernmost tip of the mighty Rocky Mountains in Santa Fe. The hills look remarkably like the Chyulu Hills of Kenya where she and Chip once lived (Hemingway’s Green Hills of Africa). They have two mischievous and adventurous daughters. They also have mountain lion, bobcat, bear, deer and coyotes on their property, and the surrounding magic and breathtaking light of the high desert reminds her of Africa every day.
